hey everyone! i miss you.
today we arrived in london after taking a red eye flight from boston. for anyone who has ever been on a red eye while simultaneously experiencing serious jetlag (london jumps ahead four hours) mixed with the general excitement of going on this trip… you know we were exhausted! however, we’ve had a really fabulous day and are very happy.
some highlights from the past 33 hours: catherine had lovely british airways food (apparently an excellent presentation with teacups that had saucers AND perfect indian chicken). meagan sat next to a christian who passionately recited the bible to her for three hours and then gave her a really beautiful copy of it for free. we found each other in heathrow, considered leaving, but in their exhaustion slept in the airport cafe for three hours instead. we went to aldgate east to exchange currency. we went to the whitechapel art gallery and saw an exhibition by wilhelm sasnal (it was ok). we met up with our friend (and wonderfully gracious host!) dickie near bow road. he answered a series of important questions for us like who is guy fawkes? (bonfire day is saturday – fireworks, yay!) and told us how to get to some great places. we went to brick lane (known as curry lane) for dinner, then to the bridge a cafe/bar that looks like an opium den. in the opium den we met a couple who were clearly starting their relationship and they asked us about our trip (ben & nick) oh! and we bought watches… because after a day with no phones we realized we never knew what time it was.
by the way, everything costs more in london. i bought a cheap beer (something that would be $3 in USA) for £3.50 here… which is close to $6. so we look forward to cashing in our pounds for euros when we hit amsterdam on sunday/monday. more updates then!
xo,
