we had nearly five whole days in london. five fabulous days that were honestly filled with only a small amount of site seeing!
a combination of jetlag and richard “dickie” flanagan (the best host in the world featured center) taking us out every night kept us from tower bridge and trafalgar square. however, we still fit in big ben, camden market, and the palace.
saturday night was the best, so let me take you through it breifly. it was officially bonfire night (which we got to celebrate the night before at a real bonfire) but now headed into a section of victoria park to see a fireworks display. yes, they played katy perry’s “firework”. we ate really greasy semi-authentic delicious fish and chips while we watched and drank beer (which you can do legally outdoors). afterwards we geared up to go out dancing in the city. we danced from about 11pm-2:30am (you can stay out til around 4am usually, but we were tired!) so we started to head home.
dickie had the brilliant idea of us renting bikes to ride home through london. it was like an exhilerating 45 min tour of the city! so amazing! he showed us the gherkin building, a museum he highly suggested, and occupy london. he kept cackling because the streets were dead – and they belonged to us!!
we returned the bikes at a location close to his place. then, at 3:30am his next brilliant idea was to toast & beans… and poached eggs!! this was incredible and topped off a night that had already been topped off.
we again went to sleep at 4am. but no matter, we were happy.
i just returned from a 8 hour walk around amsterdam! but i’ll save more stories from this town for when we leave on thursday for belgium. for now i’m fighting a cold i’ve had since sunday and hoping will be over before our next leg. will keep you updated!
love! m
