Condon Shell Mural in Medford, MA

The Condon Shell Mural sponsored by CACHE and the City of Medford

In the spring of 2021 I applied to be the muralist for the Condon Shell Mural in Medford, MA along the Mystic River. After a jury process 3 muralist were chosen to expand upon their design. Then there was community input and some back and forth with the main producers, CACHE Medford, and ultimately I won the honor of painting the Condon Shell Mural. It was completed in the month of June 2021.

When I first began my sketches for the mural I knew I wanted to capture the life and vibrancy that the Mystic River brings to the Medford community. I also kept in mind that this was a performance space. I didn’t want the performers to have videos or photos taken that constantly showed the same background art, so keeping big open spaces void of any activity was actually important to the arts design. Lastly, I was careful to choose very vibrant, fun colors! Colors are so important and I wanted to make sure they reflected the bright colors of nature in the community.

I was also lucky enough that CACHE in Medford made a video of me talking a little about the project and the process which you can also watch below.
